About the Role

  • Hazard identification and risk assessment: Inspecting the workplace to identify potential hazards, assessing the associated risks, and developing control measures.

  • Safety system management: Implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving occupational health and safety management systems and procedures.

  • Incident investigation: Investigating accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.

  • Compliance and legal: Ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and regulations.

  • Employee and management support: Advising both employees and management on safety matters and representing employee concerns regarding health and safety. 

  • Training and education: Educating employees on safety procedures and developing health and safety induction programs.

  • Policy and procedure development: Developing and implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.

  • Audits and inspections: Conducting health and safety audits and inspections to ensure standards are met.

  • Record keeping: Recording and maintaining case histories, inspection reports, and other relevant documents.

  • Safety culture: Fostering a culture of safety within the organization. 

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 8 years as an OHS Practitioner and 5 years of experience conducting OHS training.

  • Qualification: Minimum Higher Occupational Certificate: Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner (NQF Level 5) or Occupational Certificate: Safety, Health and Quality Practitioner (NQF Level 5)

  • Facilitator Certificate of Competency issued by ETDP (Must)

  • Assessor Certificate of Competency issued by ETDP (Advantageous)

  • Moderator Certificate of Competency issued by ETDP (Wish)

  • SACPCMP CHS Practitioner (Wish)

  • Sound understanding of OHS Act, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and SAQA-aligned qualifications.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and report-writing skills

  • Valid driver's license

  • No criminal record

  • South African national or valid work permit (for foreign applicants)
